I Am My Own God was born after a meeting with a sexist music professional and two subsequent whiskey drinks at the bar next door. What started as a lamentation of a specific instance of misogyny became the larger-than-life declaration of personal power it was always meant to be. The track’s subversion of religious themes that characterized the early life of songwriter Paige Renée Berry are presented as a smolder and finish in flames. The grandiose soundscape is animated by the renown Thor Harris, whose masterful auditory experimentation defies convention. Due to the limitations of Covid-19, this track was crafted in isolation and outside the regular Half Dream lineup by Paige Renée Berry and her collaborators. It finds new life with the full band, now reunited and performing locally in Austin, Texas. I Am My Own God is a timely anthem celebrating what means to stand in your truth against all odds.

Half Dream is a dream folk band based in Austin, TX and is comprised of Paige Renée Berry (guitar, vocals), Jake Ames (lead guitar), Bryan Dalle Molle (drums) and Vanessa Jollay (bass). Formed in 2018, Half Dream began with the name and songs of Paige Renée Berry and changed their moniker to reflect the ethereal and collaborative nature of the sound. Paige Berry’s songwriting explores identity, overcoming trauma, & moving past fear. Floating melodies find punch in driving hooks that highlight vocal subtleties, landing somewhere between dream and tenuous reality. These songs were born from a love of storytelling, radical empathy, and unfiltered expression from artists like Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, and Helen Reddy. Half Dream finds its home with fans of Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Wye Oak, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. The band’s debut album Monster of Needing was self-released in October of 2020 with a solo tour planned for September 2021.
